FAQ
FAQ
If you can't find your answer, please ask your nearest studio via TalkTalk or by phone.
New here?
I've never exercised before. Is that okay?
Yes. Many PAFGYM members started exercising for the first time with us. At your first orientation we check your current condition and movement, then start at an intensity that fits the results.
The first few weeks are spent learning good posture, breathing and the basic movements. Weight and reps go up slowly, at the pace your body adapts.
How does orientation work?
Orientation is split into three sessions. The first is a trial session; from the second on, it continues as regular sessions after you register.
Day 1 · Understanding your body We hear about your goals and any discomfort, check muscle mass and body fat with InBody, then look at your joints' range of motion. We finish with light bodyweight exercises anyone can follow.
Day 2 · Muscular endurance and lower body We check your baseline fitness with movements like squats and push-ups, and learn lower-body exercises. If anything feels uncomfortable, we stop right away and switch to another movement.
Day 3 · Cardiorespiratory endurance and upper body We check cardiorespiratory function with running matched to your fitness level, learn upper-body exercises, and finish with stretching.
You can check trial session prices and available times on each studio's Naver Booking.
What should I prepare for the first day?
Please bring comfortable workout clothes and indoor training shoes. Anything the studio provides will be explained when you book.
It is best to eat a light meal about 2 hours before your session. If you take any medication or have precautions from your medical team, please be sure to mention them at your first consultation.
How is my trainer chosen?
After hearing your exercise goals and the times you can come, the studio manager assigns the trainer who suits you best. If you were referred, you will train with the trainer of the person who referred you.
If you have a particular trainer in mind, please mention it when you book. You can preview each trainer's education, certifications, and the types of members they suit best on the trainer profiles page.
How long is one session?
50 minutes: a 5-minute warm-up (dynamic stretching, walking), 40 minutes of main training (strength and core work), and a 5-minute cool-down (static stretching, myofascial release).
Can I use the facilities outside of session times?
PAFGYM is a 1:1, reservation-only studio. During your booked time, only you and your trainer use the space; in exchange, we do not accommodate personal workouts outside session times. Because you don't cross paths with other members, you can focus entirely on your workout without waiting.
Can I exercise if part of my body is uncomfortable?
Please describe any areas of discomfort and your history in detail at your first consultation. Your trainer will build a program that avoids or modifies those movements.
That said, trainers do not diagnose. If a symptom needs to be checked by a medical professional, please see a doctor first and share what you were told with your trainer; we will plan your training within that scope.
Can I have a consultation in English?
English consultation is available at four studios: Hannam, Seocho, Pilates Apgujeong and Pilates Dogok. You can find their locations in the studio guide.
Personal training
How do trainer levels differ?
PAFGYM hires only experienced trainers. So even our first level, Professional, means a trainer with experience equivalent to a senior trainer elsewhere who has also completed PAFGYM's training program.
Professional We teach everything from good posture and safe fundamentals to programs built around your goals.
Senior Trainers with 3,000–10,000 sessions taught and a career score of 80 points or more, who build programs around specific goals such as strength and fitness.
Master · Manager Trainers with over 10,000 sessions taught and a career score of 100 points or more.
Fees differ by level. Please see the pricing table by level as well.
What determines a level?
Levels are set by what trainers have achieved and how much they study, not by how long they have worked. Degrees, national and accredited certifications, education and conference participation, conference presentations and writing, and competition results are all scored out of 150 points; 80 points or more qualifies for Senior, and 100 or more for Master.
The full evaluation criteria are published in the Career Ladder evaluation table.
What goals can PT help with?
We build the program around your goal: managing weight and body fat, building strength and fitness, learning good posture and movement, or preparing your fitness for sports like marathons or golf.
Even with the same goal, each person's condition and lifestyle are different, so we build a plan for you based on what we find at your first orientation.
How are my exercise records managed?
We keep your InBody results and session records and show you how you compare with your starting point at set intervals. If you use a wearable such as a smartwatch, your trainer can also review your steps, heart rate and sleep with you to plan your life outside of sessions.
You can read more about how it works in PT with data.
How many times a week should I train?
The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) recommends that adults do at least 150 minutes a week of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise, such as brisk walking, and strength training on at least 2 days a week.
That is why we recommend PT at least twice a week. If you want to build strength and fitness while also managing body fat, three times a week works well, and even once a week during busy periods helps you maintain your current body. Your trainer will give you exercises to do on your own on days without a session. What matters most is consistency.
What is the Family package?
A package of 48 sessions shared when two or more immediate family members train together. For consistent results, attending 4 times a week is the rule, and Master and Manager trainers teach private sessions only. You can see the price in the pricing table.
Can I change my trainer?
If at any point the schedule or direction doesn't feel right, please tell the studio manager. We'll listen and help you continue training with another trainer.
What is the program where you exercise while reviewing your blood glucose records?
A 1:1 program in which you wear a continuous glucose monitor for about 10 days, and your trainer reviews the records with you to adjust meal order and exercise timing. You can see in numbers how your body responds to different meals and exercise.
It does not replace medical diagnosis; anything that needs medical care, we will direct you to discuss with your doctor.
Pilates
What kind of exercise is Pilates?
An exercise method created by Joseph Pilates, who called it 'CONTROLOGY': learning to control your own body. Built on breathing and core strength, it develops flexibility, strength and balance together.
Each movement has a clear target muscle, and the movements flow without breaks.
How do mat and apparatus sessions differ?
Mat sessions use small props such as rings, bands and foam rollers, along with your own body weight. They are good for building the sense of generating force from your center and keeping your balance.
Apparatus sessions use the spring resistance of the Reformer, Cadillac, Chair and Ladder Barrel to make the same movements more precise or more challenging. They let you work evenly down to the small muscles that are hard to use on your own.
How does a single Pilates session run?
50 minutes. The first 5 minutes wake up the core with breathing and posture alignment and gently loosen the neck, back and hips. The main 40 minutes build core strength, muscular strength and balance on the apparatus and mat, and the last 5 minutes wrap up with stretching.
How do private and duet lessons differ?
Private lessons are 1:1 with an instructor; duet lessons are taken together by two people, such as family, friends or colleagues. To keep sessions focused, we do not run group classes. Private lesson pricing is listed in the Pilates price table, and duet lesson pricing is provided by the studio.
Can men do Pilates?
Yes. Joseph Pilates, who created Pilates, was a man. Core strength and flexibility are fundamentals of exercise regardless of gender, so people who do strength training often add it too.
Where are the Pilates studios?
There are two: Pilates Apgujeong and Pilates Dogok. Pilates Dogok is located inside the Dogok Life studio. You can find locations and hours on the Pilates Apgujeong and Pilates Dogok pages.
How is my instructor chosen?
The studio manager assigns a trainer based on your goals and the times you can come. If you were referred, you train with the same instructor as the person who referred you.

Fixed pricing set by trainer level and number of sessions. The price is the same whenever you sign up, and the per-session price goes down as the number of sessions increases. Prices by level are listed in the personal training fees and Pilates pricing tables.
How do I book a first consultation and trial session?
Simply choose your preferred date and time on the studio's Naver Booking page. You are also welcome to ask any questions first via Naver TalkTalk or by phone. Choose a nearby studio in the studio guide and you will see booking, TalkTalk, and phone buttons together.
How do I change or cancel a booking?
Please let the studio you booked know via TalkTalk or by phone. We will reschedule your next session with your trainer. The studio will explain the change and cancellation policy in detail when you register.
What if I can't use all my sessions within the package period?

PAFGYM
What is PAFGYM?
We are a 1:1 personal training and Pilates studio that opened in Seoul in October 2010. Over 17 years we have taught 550,000 sessions (as of 2026). The studio is run together by five co-founders who studied physical education. You can read more in About PAFGYM.
How do trainers study?
We regularly hold internal studies and training among trainers (Skill-up Sunday), and we take part in and present at academic societies and conferences. Because what trainers study is reflected in their career score, a culture of continuous learning has taken root. Trainers try out the exercise they recommend to members, such as marathons, themselves first. You can read more on the Recruitment and education page.
Are there activities members can do together?
Every third Sunday morning of the month, members and trainers run together along Yangjaecheon at Sunday Runday. We also hold member classes such as the Protein Cooking Class, Coffee Class and Golf Class. You can see past gatherings in Community.
Where can I find PAFGYM news?
Press coverage is collected in Press on the About PAFGYM page. New updates are shared first on our official Instagram, @pafgym_official.
I want to work as a trainer.
